Why do we buy toys?!
Proof that the most ordinary things can at times provide the most entertainment for a one-year-old.

Animal Sounds
This is from a couple weekends ago, but shows Lily's mastery of animal sounds. She loves to sing Old MacDonald!
Lily's favorite breakfast spot
Jeremy and I can't seem to resist weekend brunches at Tunnicliff's, and now Lily is hooked too!
She's very particular about "reading" her own copy of the menu while we look at ours...
That looks good... I wonder what that table ordered.
Hmmm, what should I order?
So how long does a girl have to wait for her Farmer's Omelet?

I love this photo...
Lily has really started looking like Jeremy lately... but I love this photo because it's such an even mix of her families. My dad's forehead and her Grandpa Dave's smile... my eyes and Jeremy's cheeks. Check it out...oh and yes, Lily's mama is for Obama :)
Hot Time in the Suburbs
It was too hot to walk around the city like we normally do on weekends. We headed out to the 'burbs and let Lily splash around in this great fountain. She had so much fun.

The mosaic reminded me of when Jeremy and I were in Morocco and I dragged him out to Volubilis. (Note: I'm trying to add more links lately so that this is a true blogging experience for those of you getting bored by our page!!)
Roosevelt Island
When I used to live in DC, every weekend meant a run either around or by Roosevelt Island... it was nice to get back there today with Jeremy and Lily. It was going to be a hot one, so we headed out shortly after Lily woke up. I normally give J. a hard time for only taking pictures where he makes me and Lily smile cheesily at the camera, so we had to give him props for getting some fun photos.
On a side note, Jeremy was telling us a story about how TR's trip to The Gambia gave him motivation to propose the entity that would later become the UN, but I couldn't confirm this - even on Wikipedia.
The two ladies in our family enjoying a stroll...
J. shot this while he was looking at kayaks, and Lily and I were enjoying the river. How funny are the similarities in zoned-out expression and crossed arms? Like mother, like daughter I guess.

Weekend Updates
We had a great weekend! Here are the highlights:
We hosted a baby shower for some friends. One of our guests was two-month-old baby Karinna; Lily was so sweet with her. Once she realized she wasn't allowed to touch her, all she wanted to do was give the baby a kiss.
She was oh-so-ready to help Fatima open her presents...
We had a lovely afternoon at the National Gallery. Here's a shot of Lily trying to convince me the fountain in the West Building could also double as her baby pool.
Helping Daddy to appreciate Lichtenstein...

Can you taste the excitement?
So obviously I am encouraging her appreciation of the greatest sport ever, but Lily is excited for the NFL season, baby! PTI has been replaced by NFL live and the ladies of our household could not be more excited...
