Another New Trick...

Lily is having one of those weeks where every day she does so many things that surprise me. She mastered the use of her walking toy, which she will use to get from her play area to our kitchen. Hard to believe she'll be ten months old tomorrow!

She Speaks...sort of

Lily has been saying her own version of "George" since last weekend, and I finally got her to say it for the camera. She also had a lot of fun looking in the mirror of one of her board books. We are looking forward to a fun weekend... two of Lily's friends have birthday parties and she seems very excited!

Rubber Ducky, You're the One...

Lily LOVES bathtime! And I love it too... mainly because Jeremy is such an awesome Daddy that he gives Lily a bath every night and I get some precious time to myself :) You can see from the video how vocal she has become in the last few days. She'll say duck and quack-quack... it's pretty cute.

Spoon

I still can't get Lily to feed herself a cheerio (though she'll feed them to George and I!) but she's taken a lot of interest in eating with a spoon lately. Most of the food goes on the floor or in her hair, but it's cool to see how independent she is becoming.

Bag O' Tricks

Here's some cute video that Jeremy shot showing what Lily's up to lately. So big, standing, "cat"... this clip has it all!! Enjoy.

Cat?

Lily did the funniest thing last night. She loves George and will try to say his name, and we've been trying to get her to say dog... which comes out as "DA!", but she will do it when she sees Georgie. But last night when we'd say dog, she responded with something totally different. Can't figure out if she's trying to say the G sound at the end of dog, but she ends up saying something that sounds a lot like cat. We don't have a cat, and I can't recall how she could have picked up on the word. Maybe this is an indication that she has in fact inherited the stubborn streak that both her mom and dad have? We're not sure, but it seems like Lily definitely knows her own mind, despite her young age!

TGIF

We had a great day today! I woke up trying to come up with more indoor play ideas for Lily, but then my friend Aly and her baby came over to hang out. It was so nice to have some company for both Lily and I!! I forgot to get some pictures of the girls together, but baby Juliana is getting so big and smiles all the time. She liked hanging out with Lily, but she especially liked George and kept laughing everytime she saw him.

Jeremy surprised us by coming home from work early... I got some great video of him and Lily together, which I'll post tomorrow! Have a great weekend.

Cabin Fever

So on Monday, it seemed like 20-degree weather was too cold to have Lily outside. But... three days later, it seemed like it was time to rethink the plan. We were both a little tired of being cooped up inside. We just wore lots of layers (check out the photo of Lily taking a story break in between) and bundled up! Between her onesie and babylegs, sweats, fleece bunting, bundle me and stroller cover (whew! who knew you needed so much just to go outside??) Lily was comfy and we were both happy to get out of the house for awhile.

Flour Power

We're in our third straight day of staying indoors due to the cold weather... enough to drive both Lily and I crazy! We got some snow overnight, but Lily hasn't quite mastered playing in it yet. She likes picking it up, but then she gets frustrated with having mittens on!

So... last night when I realized I would be faced with yet another day indoors, I figured I needed to get more creative with Lily's playtime. We played dress up yesterday, which she surprised me by liking so much. (Mom, check out the ballerina skirt you got for her!!) Today after her morning nap I put newspapers down on the kitchen floor and let her have at a big pile of flour. Figured it was the next best thing to snow... and she had a ball.

With the way the forecast is looking, we'll need to come up with more activities to get us through the week. Here's hoping good old Punxatawney Phil is correct this year and we can expect an early spring!

A Baby Girl's Best Friend, part 2

Today Lily and I were playing upstairs in her room... usually George will bring a toy of his own up there and hang out with us. Sometimes when I tug on one of George's toys he'll growl, and this time Lily decided to join in too!

Underage Drinker

I had to wake up and tell Lily about the Aggies' last minute triumph... obviously, she was quite disappointed. We're having a lazy Sunday in preparation for the Super Bowl hoopla tonight. I'm not leaning toward a particular team yet, but Lily's Uncle Larry passed on a funny little acronym to us:

Count
On
Losing
The
Super Bowl

As you can tell, Larry is a Bears man so don't shoot the messenger...

In other news, Lily has been drinking from a cup for a few weeks now. It's pretty exciting for me since she never really took to a bottle. She is getting more and more independent each day. My reaction is a strange mixture of pride in her development and sadness that she is changing and growing so quickly!

Side note to Eva G -- notice the cup with a straw? Your legacy with the neighbors lives on, as they passed on your advice of this type over the traditional sippy cup :)

Hope you enjoy the video and Jeremy's accompanying vocal performance.

Rock Chalk Jayhawk!!!

That's right people... it's College Game Day from Lawrence! For those of you not familiar with the area, Lily would like to offer a little quiz. Here goes: Name which of the following was NOT associated with the greatness that is Kansas basketball... James Naismith, Phog Allen, Roy Williams, Dean Smith, or Danny Manning.

Take a few moments to think this over.

Okay, so it was a trick question. They'll all part of the great tradition of Jayhawk B-Ball.

Enjoy the day's live coverage and the game tonight. Sadly (or fortunately?!) Lily will be in bed, but I'll be cheering enough for the two of us.
